New Series Announced!
City for Ransom is my new series with
Avon/HarperCollins books, an imprint of Morrow. This paperback
series will feature Inspector Alastair Ransom and Dr. Jane
Francis Tewes who is often going about as Dr. James Phineas Tewes
as she gets more patients as a male doctor than a female one.
Phrenology, weird sciences, the rudiments of psychiatry, magnetic
healing, the early police sciences, rudimentary forensics,
interrogation techniques in a time of no rules--anything
goes--begins to give the flavor of this pre-forensics look at
what cops did before they had any marvels of science to nail a
killer or rapist or thief. This is set in 1893 with a backdrop
of the Chicago World's Fair and the Phantom of the Fair is not a
kind killer but he is an efficient one, using a garrote. But he
also has a thing for fire and he sets the bodies aflame before
saying good-bye.
This series Rob says he is having great, great fun creating and
it will be out sometime next year as the first final draft
goes to the editor in a week or so. This rounds out the fact Rob
is reaching toward 8 series characters, some kind of Guinness
World Record along with his ability to turn himself into a clone,
although the legs came out a bit of a pretzel along with the
other extremities.

SHADOWS IN THE WHITE CITY is the sequel to CITY
FOR RANSOM, and will be available for order in April,
2007. It's available for pre-order now.
Just in the pipeline CUBA BLUE is a new series looking for a
publisher. I gained new agency representation on the basis of
this premise: A Gorky Park set in Cuba with a female lead. I
will be writing this one with a collaborator, a good friend and
writer met at DragonCon last year, Lyn Polkabla. This represents
my 8th series character as Quianna "Qui" Aguilar will be a Cuban
detective working TimeWarp Town (Old Havana) in current day
setting with a 50's Noir feel. She is my chief replacement for
the Instinct character of Jessica Coran. Need to check with Guiness (beer?) or is it Guinness? to
determine if 8 series characters is some kind of record. How
many authors have created 8 continuing characters who carry the
weight of multiple titles? Anyone out there know please contact
me and I will be your friend forever.
